College Stations Are Networking |

College radio stations are getting so sophisticated that theyve teamed up to creat their own College Radio Wire Network. As of last fall, the News Broadcast Network and Collegiate Presswire joined together to distribute NBNs text and audio news releases to subscribing stations. And as an aspect of moving into the multimedia age, the releases come with an mp3 file and a script.
Already over a hundred college stations have signed up including biggies like Columbia, NYU and the University of Florida. And thats just the start. College stations are now so high tech and autonomous that a move like this just reinforces how important theyve become. Most of their listeners are still students, but they also get a lot of alumni, faculty and just friends of the university who listen to the broadcasts, and some of the school have gotten huge followings just because their programming and selections are so good. The move toward a network type of news gathering is not only time efficient for college stations but financially good too. The DJs can look over the wire and get the same kind of experience that the commercial radio stations do, and |
